It is to the east of Totteridge, and these areas are known together as Totteridge and Whetstone. This combined area is the 63rd richest area in the UK - an acclamation which can be credited to Totteridge Lane, a long road home to many multi-millionaires. The High Road, the main road in the area, is the A1000 and part of the traditional Great North Road from London to Edinburgh.
From Grade II Listed cottages to mansions and country estates that sit on large private plots that are secluded and private, the variety of imposing property in Totteridge boasts them all. Nestled in this leafy green area of North London the vast greenbelt conservation area has a surfeit of different style properties, making the area popular with VIP's, celebrities and high profile businessmen / businesswomen. Totteridge Village and surrounding Totteridge Common and Totteridge Green are possibly the most affluent area in Greater London. A number of luxury new build developments sit on Totteridge Lane and Athenaeum Road.
The station is the penultimate one on the High Barnet branch of the Northern line, between Woodside Park and High Barnet stations. London Bus routes 34, 125, 234, 251, 263, 326, 383, 605, 626, 628, 634 and 688 and night route N20 serve the station.
There are a number of popular schools in and around Whetstone such as St Johns Primary School, Alma Primary School. St Michael's Catholic Grammar School, Ashmole Academy.

Swan Lane Open Space Swan Lane Open Space is a small public park that was created in the 1980s on the site of a C19th estate. It has a children's playground, a café, and is on hilly terrain with open grass and woodland. A small kidney-shaped pond was created for model boating, with water lilies, rushes and jetty.
